At 26, Spanish Artist Gonzalo BORONDO is a rising star and evidently an old soul. His large scale murals painted all around the world with telescopic roller brushes depict the complexity of human beings. His talent does not only lie in his technique and in the profoundness and maturity of his subjects. He also masters the art of scenography which enables him to push the boundaries and have his works interact with the environment.
We visited Borondo in his London studio while he was preparing his major and awaited show « Animal » with Rex Romae Gallery, curated by Rom Levy and Charlotte Dutoit.
Borondo is quite a secretive guy, he does not like social media and exposure. He is driven. Lives for his art and where his art takes him. And he loves working surrounded by his friends who are family to him. For this exhibition, he has decided to collaborate with his friends artists Despina Charitonidi (Greece), Carmen Main (Spain), Edoardo Tresoldi and Francesco Venturini (Italy).
Their alchemy and togetherness is palpable. Each of them is an accomplished artist. Each of them has his own distinctive style and individuality. And they all understand each other so well that they manage to create a coherent and powerful body of work which melts into Borondo’s world.
